Gretzky takes delivery of a custom Steinway
The great one goes boating
After an intensive and secretive year-long build process, a custom designed Steinway was delivered to one of hockey’s greatest.
The Steinway 340HT, a custom built boat for Wayne Gretzky and his wife Janet, officially rolled out of the shop at Coeur Custom Wood Boat Shop at Hagadone Marine Group in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
The boat pushes the envelope of boat design and construction, says master craftsman Jim Brown, who adds that Gretzky was in search of a luxurious wood model to enjoy on Lake Coeur d’Alene, where the boat builder is located.
“In a career of building wood boats, I’ve never seen anything quite like this one,” Brown says.
The boat is meticulously designed to be a family fun cruiser by day, and an elegant entertainment platform by night. The Gretzkys were involved in the interior design of the boat to be sure it was the perfect platform for their summer outings on the lake.
Those family friendly features include open bow seating, a private head with a Nano electric toilet, a state-of-the-art sun lounge, walk-through transom and hydraulic teak swim platform, two refrigerators for additional food and beverage storage, a foldable and removable table, as well as a Sureshade retractable sun shade system built into the boat for comfort at the touch of a button. The sound system is best-in-class.
After hours, the boat has a fridge and ice drawer to keep the champagne cold, large U-shaped seating area for guests, a cedar-lined hanging locker for that after-dinner jacket, and a side walk-through door for easy boarding. Guests will also be wowed by the evening lighting package including underwater lights.
These features and many more are smartly designed into a 34-foot package with a 9’6” beam. The Steinway is powered by twin Mercury 430 hp engines with Bravo drives. There are two large touch screens at the helm, as well as digital throttles and a joystick docking system, which comes in handy when you have a boat this special at your fingertips.
“To see their eyes light up, to see them take the helm of their boat for the very first time…those are very special moments,” Brown says.
